The Church in Europe, threatened as never before by the brazen atheism of Voltaire and the French Revolution, fell to its knees and pleaded for revival. In 1791 God replied from heaven with what became known as the Second General Awakening. The circle of its power widened until, a few years later, its impact was felt in South Africa.
